Sehit Millis Nuri is a primary school (06-14 aged students) in the east part of K.Maras city centre with more than 1300 students and 45 staff. Our school is the coordinator in this partnership and relies on its successful background on the Comenius project. We have already carried out a project and our pupils really took a great advantage of participating in an intercultural activity. Actually, our previous project is the best organization in which our pupils and their parents have ever experienced.
Due to the location and socioeconomic levels of the people around the school, they do not have the opportunity to attend this kind of international organizations. Regarding all these facts, Our school is very important for the pupils and their families to expand their visions and approaches to life. Even though our school takes place in the urban part of the city, most of the families still have their old traditional ways of life which belong to rural areas. Their education levels are too low and this affects their children’s lives who are our students. Most of the fathers are employed as workers in the textile factories around the city and they work for minimum wage which is really under the average incomes of the city. As to the mothers of the pupils, almost all of them are housewives and they cannot make any supports to their families. In comparison with the other schools, especially in the new districts of the city, Our school needs this kind of projects because pupils around the school have really low economic standards and they may not be able to find another chance to attend a high standard intercultural activity in the rest of their lives. To sump up, I can say that, Comenius is not only a partnership project but it is also a vital chance for our pupils and the related people in the neighbourhood

I am very pleased to meet the teachers and your students in December. I hope to speak a little with the students. I would like to make a recording for to my students (maybe some of your students can sing a nursery rhyme, very simple for us to learn..)

We are also looking forward to our visit in Kahramanmaras. Having seen the videos this reminds me of my last visit in Turkey almost twenty years ago. Those days it was the west coast of Turkey, first. I visited friends in Izmir and then made a trip by bus to Göreme, Kayseri, Malatya, very near to where we shall be going now! Down to the south coast I headed for a small place called Karatepe, where some other friends were spending their holidays. I loved the warm weather and the mild climate on the mediterranean coast. Hopefully we will be enjoying a little bit of this in December! (Jörg from Berlin)
