WELCOME TO TARTU VEERIKU SCHOOL

Tartu Veeriku School

Our school was built in 1987. It is a primary school and children get basic education from our school. There are about 400 students and 30 teachers in our school. Students come to school at the age of seven and usually leave school at the age of 15-16 having graduated from the ninth form.

It is a local, regional school with English – biased classes and nature oriented classes. Both orientations are popular. From this school-year our students started to learn English from the 1st class. The graduates of our school often come back to take part in everything that happens at school. Although it is a young school, it has many traditions. We have our spring concerts, sports competitions, folk-dance festivals, Christmas plays and our own Olympic Games. Parents and local people take active part in the school-life. There are good sports facilities and computer- classrooms, choirs and folk-dance groups and also drama groups. As our school is not very big, it helps to make the feeling of “our school” stronger. We want to create a friendly atmosphere at school to motivate the children to learn and raise the students’ role in the process of learning.

Townhall of Tartu

A little bit about our hometown Tartu – the city of good thoughts. It is the second largest city of Estonia.
Tartu has always been the intellectual capital of Estonia. It is the cradle of the Estonian Song Festival, Estonian Theatre and the Estonian State. Tartu University is one of the oldest universities in Northern Europe (founded in 1632)  We may even talk about  ”Tartu Ghost” – a mysterious being that makes you spend too much time here and come back to Tartu over and over again. Where does the Ghost live? Nobody knows, but you can feel its presence almost everywhere. Local people also say that time flows slower in Tartu.
